Is using torrent in India illegal? What punishment?

Are you a criminal if you are using torrent in India?

You are criminal if you download or upload pirated content.

How serious is this?

Ans-The article is kind of exaggeration considering Indian Legal System.

Everything we have in our computers is ILLEGAL. From Windows to Vendor Software(except Open Source S/W’s). From Captain America to Sultan. From GTA to Angry Birds. I mean everything. If we exclude people in India who use genuine products and download genuine stuff,it would hardly make 1%(I seriously doubt that if it crosses .5%).

Well if Goverment implement above law seriously. I do not think there would be anyone left to vote next time. :)

This law is more of showoff to present their stand on piracy and spread awareness.

So chill and have fun.

PS- I am yet to see a real person who use all genuine products and do not download or have pirated content in their personal computer.I have read about one or two on quora. Maybe these people are fiction characters of goverment’s imagination.

I have a genuine windows license though I prefer not to use it.
